Introduction:

This is an at-home guide for how to engage the five “stations of prayer” provided in the gathering this morning. This page is just a tool, not a requirement.

You are encouraged to enter into this time of prayer and worship asking God to guide your steps, as there will be a time dedicated for you to engage the different activities at your own pace.

“Bringing hope to the hopeless”

AT HOME: Before you begin, grab an unlit candle and a lighter or match. Doesn't matter what kind of candle, just something you have on hand.

Your candle can be lit as you pray for others. For your community, city, government, schools, workplaces, etc. As you pray, light a candle as a representation of God bringing hope into places of hopelessness light into places of darkness. As we pray the ancient prayer, ‘Your kingdom come’. Ask God to bring people, places or situations to mind as you pray.

PRAYERS OF LAMENT

AT HOME: Before you begin, pick a chair somewhere in the room with you to stand in as your "empty chair"

The “Empty Chair” speaks of someone or something that is missing. Whether your pain has been experienced through sickness, loneliness, economic hardship, polarization in politics, racism, loss of neighbors, church members, family and friends, genuine pain has reverberated through our world.

Pour out your raw and unfiltered emotion to God at the empty chair. Feel free to sit, stand or kneel near the chair or anywhere else. This is a place to lament and ask the Lord hard questions. Tell God whatever is on your heart. It’s okay to come undone. Vulnerability leads to nearness with God. Lay it all out.

AT HOME: Before you begin, grab a journal and pen.

To orient your heart toward God, start by reading through, meditating on and praying this song of praise.

Psalm 100

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

What blessings do you want to thank God for from this past year? Write out your thanksgiving to God for all that he’s done.

Jesus said, “You do not have because you do not ask.” What is a desire, dream or plea that you have been almost scared to share out loud? The thing you rarely consider a possibility but still haunts your heart. What have you put on the back burner because it feels like asking for too much?

Write down one huge request that you have for this year.
