Practicing Contemplative Prayer
“God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer.”
Mother Teresa

Set aside 10 min each day this week for silent prayer. Find a place that is quiet and set an alarm. It may feel like an hour to start, but after sometime participating in this practice of silence you will begin to feel the benefits in your soul and in your communion with the Father. If your mind drifts re-center attention on God. If you’re finding it hard to focus on the Lord, focus on your breathing as you worship Yahweh. Slowly repeat his name several times with each slow breath in and out, saying Yah-weh. If desired, increase your time as the week goes on.

Deeper Dive: Set aside an hour one day this week. Be sure you will not be interrupted. Turn off all your devices, and follow the four steps on the front of this sheet. It may help to review the sermon online before you enter your hour of contemplative prayer. (vancouverchurch.org/sermons). Then, please let us know about your experience. You can respond on a Connection Card, or email any of our pastors; we would love to hear your story!
