• What stood out to you in the sermon? (VancouverChurch.org/sermons)
  • Who do you know that has remained close to Jesus, while living a life clearly for Jesus? How do you think they remained so strong in the Lord for so long? In what ways do you desire to be like them?
  • Read John 15:1-10. List several feature of the passage that seem important to you?
  • According to this passage, what do you think it means to “remain in Jesus”? And how do we do that?
  • To get consistently closer to God, you’ve got to keep your mind and heart focused on Jesus, through the continual practice of biblical meditation. If you know how to worry, you know how to meditate, but we want to let the Holy Spirit highjack that negative meditation skill and lead you to biblical meditation. Essentially this means talking to God about God to gain a deeper relationship with God. Often this discussion is focused on Scripture or God’s good creation, and must always be rooted in sound biblical perspective. Below is a beginners guide for biblical meditation.
  • Pick one of your most enjoyed passions (hobby, place, sport, art, skill, animal, scenery, adventure, food, craft, etc.). What is it about that passion that you love some much? List a few characteristics that are deeply engaging to you.
  • Now discuss this passion with the Lord, asking him several of the following questions: Lord, why is this so engaging to me? What do I love about it? Why am I drawn to it? Lord, what does this passion tell me about you? What do you love about it? Why do you make this possible for me to experience? What does the Bible say about all this? What are you hoping I learn about you from it? How could this passion possibly draw me closer to you?
  • Commit to a time and place this week in which you will practice the discipline of biblical meditation. Then pray for each other, that you will grow closer to the Lord, as you chose to spend time discussing a favorite passion or Bible passage with him.
