POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Assistant will work with the Shop Manager to help secure the proper maintenance and functionality of the facility for Vancouver Church and King’s Way Christian School. This position will work in cooperation with the Facilities Team to ensure that preventative schedules, repairs, rebuilds, replacements, and restoration needs of the facility are met. This position will assist in the planning and directing of the day-to-day facility needs to ensure that safety, security, usage, appearance, and overall maintenance of the establishment are in excellent functioning condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the maintenance of the building and equipment on and in the facility. This may include, but not limited to, structural care, cleaning, grounds keeping and landscape, kitchen repair, cafeteria, classrooms, offices, etc. All must be in excellent condition. Repair or replace items and equipment as needed.
  • Assist the Shop Manager and Coordinator with the ordering, intake, organization and management of all supplies and equipment as needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Work in cooperation with the Shop Manager to respond to all work-orders to ensure timely and satisfactory completion of jobs.
  • Work with outside vendors as needed.
  • Assist with the needs of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, waste management and other essential utilities and ensure its equipment is in good working order.
  • Provide assistance with the maintenance of all parking lots on the property.
  • Support the Shop team and King’s Way school as needed to help maintain and ensure that all fields, playgrounds, and surrounding areas used for the church, the school and the community are in excellent condition.
  • Assist the Shop team with providing a safe environment.
  • Provide record keeping and follow the process for reporting how repairs are being completed.
  • Assist Shop Team with all security concerns as needed. Be able to recognize security threats on campus. Report issues to authority.
  • Work on mechanical lifts, ladders and scaffolding in a safe and calm manner.
  • Maintain and organize work areas and closets.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital growing personal relationship with Him.
  • Skilled with basic repair and maintenance. Examples may include but are not limited to: minor electrical and plumbing, vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, building equipment, lawn irrigation, etc.
  • Physically able to: lift 50+ pounds unassisted, work in a fast-paced environment, twist, turn, stoop, bend, kneel, and all other physical requirements needed to perform the tasks well.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and work with minimal supervision.
  • Skills with large and small power tools, hand tools, and equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with high standards of excellence.
  • Discernment about liability concerns with projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and relationship skills. Ability to interact with teachers, students, and various facility users in a positive and helpful manner.
  • Strong decision-maker with good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Competent technology skills with the ability to provide hands-on repair and maintenance work as needed.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Google software applications.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of successful experience in general maintenance and repair
  • High School diploma or GED required

POSITION SUMMARY: The job of Custodian is to maintain the facility/assigned area to meet Church and
School wide cleaning standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Use power equipment and hand tools such as broom, mop, auto scrubber, carpet extractors, sweeper, buffer/polisher and vacuums as required for cleaning and general building maintenance.

Complete routine custodial cleaning in accordance with the cell task list including, but not limited to, cleaning and sanitizing toilet, sinks, and shower fixtures, replenishing dispensers, emptying
waste/recycle trash containers, dusting, sweeping and mopping.

Perform routine maintenance such as replacing light tubes and washing windows. Refinish and polish floors as required.

Open and/or close building, if required, and prepare the buildings for use, including Locking and securing buildings at the close of assigned shift and following closing procedures.

Perform required emergency cleaning services and report any needed repair work to supervisor or maintenance team.

Set up and remove furniture required for special events.

Maintain a neat orderly work area and keep equipment clean and well maintained.

Participate in ongoing recycling programs and be committed to Cleaning standard practices.

Be punctual and demonstrate regular attendance.

Participate in special projects as assigned, specifically during school breaks and summer, and perform related duties and key responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the custodial lead or Executive Pastor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PHYSICAL and COGNITIVE ABILITIES

Physical stamina and skill to work efficiently and safely with cleaning equipment as necessary to complete assigned duties. Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis and occasionally 75 lbs and climb ladders to 12 feet.
Ability to walk, stand, and move for 8 hours at a time.
Ability to push, pull, twist, turn, stoop, bend, reach, squat, continuously for 8 hours at a time.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.
Ability and willingness to take direction, work with minimum supervision, manage multiple tasks and develop appropriate priorities.
Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with the church & school staff, the community and students.
Must possess good reading, writing and oral communication skills.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Job related experience is desired.

CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: Willingness to participate in and provide continued training as appropriate.

CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice fingerprint/Background Clearance
