VANCOUVER CHURCH

Vision

As a community trying to follow Jesus well, we want to see heaven come to earth by following God’s voice to:

  • Create solutions for big community challenges
  • Help thousands of neighbors gain a relationship with God
  • Equip people to build a culture of life-giving and spiritually supportive relationships
  • Plant other multiplying locations along the West Coast

The Bible

We believe the Scriptures are the inspired and flawless Word of God. They are God’s method of speaking directly to us and convey a history of people and events that literally happened. 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Genesis 1:5-23; Exodus 20:11

The Trinity

There is only one living and true God, and He exists in a community of three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1-2; Deuteronomy 6:4.

Sin

Every person begins life separated from the perfect God. To gain access to God, a perfect sacrifice is needed. We are not perfect; that perfect sacrifice was completed through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Genesis 1:3; Romans 1:18.

Salvation

Salvation can’t be found through performance or moral behavior. Instead, it’s free. It comes from faith in the person who did the work already – Jesus Christ. Once received, this salvation can never be lost. However God wants his followers to live His abundant life while on earth. John 6:29; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 5:10.

Spiritual Growth

Spiritual growth is a constant process. Every follower should become a disciple or student of Jesus, with the goal to become more and more like Him through the transformation of our hearts and minds. Romans 12:2; John 14:21; Galatians 5:22-24

Communion

Jesus told us to take part in communion until His return as a symbolic reminder of His sacrifice on the cross. Communion is a time of self-examination and confession. Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32

Baptism

Being baptized underwater is an outward declaration of intent to follow Christ. It’s a step of obedience after accepting Christ, but not a requirement of salvation. Acts 10:47; Romans 6:4

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you believe?

We embrace historic Christian teaching, emphasizing:

  • The triune and eternal nature of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
  • The virgin birth and sinless life of Jesus Christ – the only begotten Son of God.
  • Salvation by grace through faith in the atoning work of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.
  • The work and importance of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer and the community of faith.
  • The inspiration and authority of the Bible.
  • The Kingdom of God, as established by the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, exists today in the church.
  • The imminent return of Jesus Christ.

What if I come from a different faith background?

While Vancouver Church is associated with the Church of God, people who attend come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds—Catholic, Nazarene, Wesleyan, Baptist, etc. Together, we focus on biblical truth and teachings, and pursuing an active relationship with Jesus Christ.

Will I be expected to give money?

If you are new to Vancouver Church, please don’t feel any pressure to give. People will never be pressured to give money here, but regular attenders are encouraged to invest in the work of ministry at Vancouver Church by generously sharing from their God-given resources. The offerings which we receive during our gatherings support the many ministries of our church as well as missions work around the world and are given as an act of worship.

What if I have more questions?

We would be honored to talk to you about any questions you might have before you attend Vancouver Church. Feel free to Contact Us!

Will I understand the message even if I don’t know much about the Bible?

Our messages are prepared to connect with people’s lives by using the ageless wisdom of Scripture and presenting it in a creative, yet straight-forward way. The gatherings are designed to be easily understood by individuals checking out what it really means to have a personal relationship with Jesus as well as those who have been committed Christ-followers for many years. We hope you’ll find our gatherings to be very helpful in your personal spiritual growth.

How do people at Vancouver Church express worship?

“Worship” involves surrendering ourselves to God. We believe in a variety of different expressions in worshiping God. On the stage, you might see worship leaders clapping or raising their hands while they sing and the musicians playing various instruments. You are welcome to worship God in a way you feel expresses your heart toward Him. For some, that’s quietly reflecting on the words and, for others, that’s clapping, raising their hands, and singing out.

What if I’m not even sure I believe in God?

If you haven’t made a decision to accept Christ, but would like to know more about it, that’s a good thing! That means you’re asking questions about spiritual things and how they might relate to your life. You are welcome to explore answers to your questions here.
