What do you believe?
We embrace historic Christian teaching, emphasizing:
- The triune and eternal nature of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
- The virgin birth and sinless life of Jesus Christ – the only begotten Son of God.
- Salvation by grace through faith in the atoning work of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.
- The work and importance of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer and the community of faith.
- The inspiration and authority of the Bible.
- The Kingdom of God, as established by the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, exists today in the church.
- The imminent return of Jesus Christ.
Will I understand the message even if I don't know much about the Bible?
Our messages are prepared to connect with people’s lives by using the ageless wisdom of Scripture and presenting it in a creative, yet straight-forward way. The gatherings are designed to be easily understood by individuals checking out what it really means to have a personal relationship with Jesus as well as those who have been committed Christ-followers for many years. We hope you’ll find our gatherings to be very helpful in your personal spiritual growth.
What if I come from a different faith background?
While Vancouver Church is associated with the Church of God, people who attend come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds—Catholic, Nazarene, Wesleyan, Baptist, etc. Together, we focus on biblical truth and teachings, and pursuing an active relationship with Jesus Christ.
How do people at Vancouver Church express worship?
“Worship” involves surrendering ourselves to God. We believe in a variety of different expressions in worshiping God. On the stage, you might see worship leaders clapping or raising their hands while they sing and the musicians playing various instruments. You might also see dance or other art forms incorporated into our gatherings as acts of worship. You are welcome to worship God in a way you feel expresses your heart toward Him. For some, that’s quietly reflecting on the words and, for others, that’s clapping and singing out.
What different music styles are available?
Vancouver Church offers two distinctly different styles of worship music during our three worship gatherings. For more information about our weekend gatherings, check out The Weekend Experience.
What else should I expect?
Often it’s helpful during a message to illustrate real life situations through a movie clip, dramatic sketch or other creative ways. Sometimes these outlets may not be from “Christian” resources, but we often find great insights into the human condition from them. We screen words and subject content closely for use in our church gatherings.
Is there something for the kids?
Vancouver Church has something for your entire family. Programming for children (birth-4th grade) is available during all of our weekend gatherings and programming for students (5th-12th grade) is available on Sunday mornings during our 11:00 am service. While parents are peacefully enjoying the service, kids can have fun and learn about God at their level. For more information, browse around our website, ask any host at the door, or contact us!
Will I be expected to give money?
If you are new to Vancouver Church, please don’t feel any pressure to give. People will never be pressured to give money here, but regular attenders are encouraged to invest in the work of ministry at Vancouver Church by generously sharing from their God-given resources. The offerings which we receive during our gatherings support the many ministries of our church as well as missions work around the world and are given as an act of worship.
What if I'm not even sure I believe in God?
If you haven’t made a decision to accept Christ, but would like to know more about it, that’s a good thing! That means you’re asking questions about spiritual things and how they might relate to your life. You are welcome to explore answers to your questions here.
How do I get involved?
Attending weekend gatherings is a great start, but we hope you’ll move beyond being just part of our weekend crowd. You can further your faith, meet people and learn more about life as a Christ-follower by getting into a small group or serving in a ministry.
